The Texel wears a full-body coat of soft ringlets, a long-haired guinea pig in permanent curls. Developed in the 1980s by crossing a Silkie with a Rex, it is one of the newest and most striking breeds.

Those curls mat easily, so Texels are among the highest-maintenance breeds: daily detangling, careful bedding choices, and regular trims. For show enthusiasts and dedicated owners, nothing else compares.
